The best I can do is to remark that you should be asking about the effects of those phenomena on specific variables, like GDP gap and/or unemployment gap, for instance (and then you have the literature on inflation stabilization and the Phillips curve), where you surely can deal with short-run and long-run effects. And of course I would recommend to first review the origin of inflation/deflation, since this background reading may help you quite a lot (e.g. topics like Central Bank independence, fiscal dominance, the Great Depression issues, and the like).
