We know that high voltage engineering is a very traditional subject. Judging from the present condition, it seems that American universities seldom conduct researches on this area now. However, in Europe and Japan, there are still many researchers in this area. Maybe it is because some large companies like ABB, SIEMENS, ALSTOM, and TOSHIBA, etc. have the motivation to make products with higher voltage level and larger capacity and all theses companies are in the mentioned regions. My question is, are there any institutes, especially universities, doing research related with high voltage or electrical insulation in the USA?
I think you better check the internet. I still think the Americans are doing research on HV engineering and all. For example, I remember reading some papers on HV engineering from Arizona State University, some five years ago. Check their website you might see something.

The University of Michigan and Cornell were doing high power pulsed energy machines as well.

Please check out Clarkson University in the North Eastern part of the USA. They are also dedicated to Power Engineering.
The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio also has a high voltage laboratory. There are several universities in Canada. Also, the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI - US, not related to EPRI - China) has a large outdoor research laboratory (1.5 MV 3-phase AC, 15. MV DC, 5.6 MV impulse) in Lenox, MA, where I spent 24 years conducting such research. What exactly is your interest?

Thank you George Gela. My research interest is electrical insulation for HVDC gas insulated line, ie. epoxy resin materials for DC insulation. I just want to find a proper institute or university, probably, to have a chance to be a visiting student there for one or two semester (in China, we call it joint-PhD training).
You may be interested in looking into pulsed power research programs which often include insulator/dielectric studies such as those located at Texas Tech and University of Missouri.

Thank you for your answer, Nick Kallas. They are doing very well in pulsed power, but still not fit for me. Now, maybe ASU is a better choice. I still wonder why it is so few universities that are interested in insulation and dielectric materials in the US?
