If it is Abernathy and Utterback´s Product Life Cycle Model that you refer to, I have an old paper that tried to deal with some of these issues: Fevolden & Grønning (2010) Combining innovation and capacity utilization in high throughput systems: Moving beyond the product life cycle model by introducing second-order innovations, in Industry and Innovation. I don’t know how useful it is, but you can have a look if it is relevant
