Could you weigh in your opinion, preferably with some associated paper, data etc.?
I am getting a strong objection on ""The idea is interesting but outdated. HDDs in data centers are rapidly being replaced by SSDs which consume much less power".

I'm not sure how one can separate the topics of "cloud storage" from the HDD vs SDD debate. Where are the data stored, in cloud server clusters? Even if the metadata can be reached rapidly from cloud server DRAM, what about the files themselves?
My thinking is that cloud storage severs still use HDD primarily. In the future, that might change. Nice things said about SSDs, in the second link. The issue is speed, and no doubt, cost per TB continues to be the tradeoff.
