I am interested in studying mummies in Ethiopia. There are hundreds of mummies in a cave site located in northern Ethiopia that date back to 14th c. The mummies are very well preserved. This is cave site still used for religious purposes.
The first question is what studying does mean. There is an anthropological approach, like age of death, sex, race, diseases, etc. A second one would be the historical context who buried them. If the cave belongs to the former kingdom of Kaffa (Qafa), a very old tradition might come from Ancient Egypt. A third one is restricted purely to archeology, including the findings (goods), the manner of textiles and bindings. One may add also ethnological views, e.g. what might have been the religious conceptions with respect to Amhara, Tigre, Danakil, Oromo etc.
