I’m searching for possible applications for magnesium wire and rods. I considered fasteners (for example, screws, rivets, and bolts), springs , grids and meshes and bioresorble implants. Also I would like to discuss their potential. I’m not sure if Mg springs could get to industrial use, because of its low Young modulus of 45 GPa. But springs from aluminium with a low Young modulus of 70 GPa is commercially available. In my opinion screws have the best chances because with increasing use of Mg sheets more fasteners of the same material will be needed (e.g. to reduce galvanic corrosion). Any ideas for other applications would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Just keep it in mind that, if you want to use Mg alloys for structural applications, the most important advantages is low density. Without this property, Mg is inferior than many other alloys. Then you can consider some applications where weight is critical but this part do not need to suffer from extremely high stress (e.g. seat frame or some fasteners, etc, on aeroplane). Or you can consider some part in your cell phone, maybe the shell.
In fact, to some extent, Mg alloy is developed as an alternative for Al alloy.

even if your answer's been a while: ultra-fine-grained sounds interesting. Producing UFG is a significant branch in wire rolling research in the last years. What is your collegue doing exactly?
