Residual stresses in copper alloys can be detected by performing a mercurious nitrate test, where the mercurious nitrate leads to a rapid corrosion of the zones with residual stresses. Does anybody have data on the material removal rate as a function of time and concentration of the mercurious nitrate in a aequous solution? Although only secondary to my problem, it would also be interesting to know the influence of temperature (our testing is done at room temperature) and the amplitude of the residual stress.
