The bamboo reinforced concrete is viable with some surface tretments of bamboo strips.
You could try to contact SGS INTRON in The Netherlands (+314642404204) as they performed numerous tests on concrete with bamboo. You could get usefull information there.
The Technological University of Panama has done research. However, its published in Spanish. I think that while there are studies showing that it is structurally viable in the laboratory, it will be very difficult to prove that it is a viable long term solution without corresponding long term studies.
Please refer to practical use of bamboo reinforced construction rather than theoretical/experimental use. Theoretically it lasts long as steel-reinforced construction, but problem is quality of bamboo......... In Nepal and India, they are using it for water-tank. In pre-war Japan and China, they used it, however no existence, I think. Try to find an article on bamboo reinforced structure in Journal of Engineers in China around 1940.
This has been proven over an over not to be practical. The bamboo will deteriorate on the cementius matrix (no matter the treatment), to this date I have not seen a single study showing the durability of the composite. Furthermore the thermal expansion of both materials is very different and creates voids that deteriorate the composite. from the environmental point of view it does not make sense at all, you reduce the impact but the life span is dramatically reduce and the risk of collapsing of structure increase ten fold.This is a bad idea based on the saying that "bamboo is the vegetable steel" which is only true if the bamboo is dry and in a laboratory, at the moment moisture gets to it the mechanical properties change and the decaying starts. We have to stop thinking in bamboo as a replacement, there is lot of knowledge on bamboo based construction and there is where the efforts need to be put.
