Does anyone have an experience on writing or supervising PhD thesis using Autoethnography?
I have read some literatures on Autoethnopgraphy, but writing Autoethnography as PhD thesis is something really different. Would you share the experiences, challenges, cautious matters?

Last year, I defended my dissertation about grief and doctoral attrition using autoethnography as my method. My university had never approved this method before, so I felt ambivalent about it. My chair supported the idea fully, so I found someone I considered an expert on the subject from another university willing to sit on my committee. We could not have finished it without her, so the first thing I would recommend is being very careful about selecting your committee. Has your university ever approved a dissertation using autoethnography before? Does anyone from your university teach it or publish using it?
The entire experience was difficult but worthwhile for me. What is your topic?

my main method is qualitative and I use Thematic Analysis. However, during the process, my supervisor wants me to do Autoethnography too, woith the aim to tell the story of my background which lead me to the arising of the research question. I was an elite athlete in Indonesia myself, and the research question on my PhD research is to understand the psychological demands of Indonesian elite athlete. Indeed I sensibly think that my past experience as an elite athlete also connected with the research question I endeavour, even in the way I analyze the data.
So, the autoethnography will be one part of my PhD thesis.
About the commitee, I haven't think about that. But my Supervisor support me well. I will inquire it further. Thanks for your response!
