Beyond the golden rule "reading, reading and reading", I would like to know if there are any tips, recommendations, books, articles, daily actions that I can do to write for academic and scientific purposes in a very good English.
My concern as a researcher is to be able to use the language:
- to express complex issues straightforwardly
- to get to the point yet by using a variegated (not boring) language
and of course to use English words and constructs correctly and wisely.
I found collaborating with individuals from different areas of research and also outside of academic circles as a great tool in improving writing.
The suggestions above are valuable. Also, try co-authoring a paper with a professor or researcher whose native language is English.
I have found out reviewers of articles to journals have improved my papers immensely. I could achieve the same result if I have an English-speaking person review my papers. He/she does not have to be technically trained in the same science, just anyone to read it and make suggestions for improvements.
After the improvements I re-read my draft and re-read the improved text to see the differences; then I will not repeat the same mistakes.
Have a look at REF-N-WRITE scientific paper writing tool. This tool allows you to import text from previous papers relevant to the subject area in MS word. While you are writing your paper, you can just search for similar statements from other authors and inherit their vocabulary and language to improve your paper. It also comes with a library of academic phrases that you can readily use to polish your paper. Here is the link for the site.

@ Premkumar Elangovan, I took a look at the link you provided. I think that people can do the same thing as ref-n-write does by just Google searching keywords. Although ref-n-write use 'academic'-based words.in their database.
