It has been a while since we used content analysis to analyze the interviews of senior level executives to see how much "knowledge content" is extracted using structured vis-a-vis unstructured interviews. The reference here might provide some information and references.. Hope it helps

Abstract: Clients', therapists', and observers' identification of change was studied in 27 therapeutic processes, and agreement on the amount, temporal location, and content of change was related to outcome. Results show that clients reported more changes in successful therapies. Client-therapist temporal match of change moments was low irrespective of outcome. Results from all three perspectives were consistent in that manifestation of new behaviors and emotions was the most representative content of change among all therapies. Meanwhile, client-therapist agreement on the frequency of grouped change indicators reported was associated with positive outcome, whereas client-observer agreement was related to negative outcome. Therapists and observers agreed in both successful and nonsuccessful therapies. The relationship between agreement and therapeutic outcome is discussed in relation to each dimension of analysis.

Psychotherapy entails the following (generall): 1. Forming a trusting and collaborative relationship. 2. Stripping away/blocking primative/abberant defenses that prevent further maturation/brain differentiation/growth while being sensitive to the secondary gain (short-term postivie effects) of the primative coping strategies/defenses. 3. Assisting the patient with regulation of the breakthrough anxiety/pain of loosing the secondary gain and holding them into the growth field (engagement through psychotherapy). 4. Encouraging practice with new and more mature/effective coping skills and assisting the patient with taking stock (reinforcement) of the less harmful consequences. 5. Maintaining the change long enough for it to be internalized and the patient trainsitioned to the new self (or self-efficacy belief complexes; new neural nets and systems).

I would suggest that you set up your sampling interviews, or narratives based on these stages and functions in psychotherapy.

I've seen these terms being used to describe similar processes. I would say that since it is qualitative it is more of a "meta-synthesis" if I had to select one term. I think the term "meta-analysis" is more recognizable though. I'd be interested if you are working on clarifying the distinction in these terms though!
