Social Media and Customer Empowerment have created a new reality for retailers. Customer reviews and social media help customers make better product choices and retailers improve their products. On the other hand customers seem to increasingly use the threat of negative comments in social media or negative reviews in review sites in order to get discounts or press for favors. In a large circulation Dutch newspaper there was a lot of attention to this phenomenon this weekend and I also have personal experience from businessmen who complained to me about such practices. Any suggestion for research on the topic is welcome
