Dear RG members, I am aware about negative impact of hailstorm on agriculture. If anybody has any reference or experience on utility of hailstorm in agriculture field. please share here .
Hail storm in fallow land increase moisture retention in soil . particularly rainfed areas, sowing of crops can be done . loss due to hailstorm depends on crop stage and type of crop.
Hail storm may also increase Nitrogen induction in soil and proliferate yield and other contributing traits. N dissolved in hail boll or in rain and come down to the soil. but it depend on the intensity and duration of the hail storm. when exceed beyond the range then adversely damage the crop.
In some crops such as soybean they are quite able to tolerate significant defoliation up to 40% without major yield and quality losses. In some cases my Professors at the University of Illinois would recount of farmers claiming hail insurance after getting a hail storm getting a good payment based an the agent assessment and then getting good yield and quality in their final crop.
