If you want for mathematical calculations and graphs plotting pls go for Maple. Mathametica can also so the same thing but best for Numerical Calculations.

Although other similar mathematical tools do not share some uniqueness of Mathematica, especially in the manner of its symbolic calculations, I believe in the manner of power, both Maple and Matlab are as powerful and can be used instead.

Maxima is open source and has tensorial packages.
