I'm looking to do an LD50 test for lionfish venom - I can either inject the venom into a prey fish, or add it to water containing the prey fish. I have seen articles that offer both as alternatives and various suggestions on dosage. I'm first primarily interested in hearing new ways that folks have extracted a stable form of lionfish venom.
I have removed spines and dorsal musculature from several lionfish and placed in a -80 freezer, are these samples still viable for obtaining venom? I have read that venom denatures quickly and is very unstable. Any new insight would be greatly appreciated.

Based on our recent experience, the lion fish venom extracted from spines is stable at -80.
Do not worry. Lyophilize your sample instantly, and store it at -80 and avoid freeze thawing.
