actually im searching for article in which a comparison is done b/w MPLS and ip network on base of performance matrics.. also shown the result in simulation... if any one have a good article or thesis plz send or sugest me.. thanks
This old presentation, from 2002, shows that MPLS is faster. I don't think that would be true anymore. Routers don't use CPU cycles to route packets. So routing packets and switching packets using labels won't result in meaningful performance differences. And, normal IP routing avoids the need to keep switching labels at every hop.
MPLS is used to build VPNs. That has to be the reason to use it. I don't think that performance differences should be today's consideration, however. If there's any aspect of performance differences to investigate in greater detail, I would suggest it is to compare how a modern router routes packets, and then see if there's any likely improvement with forwarding based on labels.
