I am working on my MS in Mental Health Counseling and Addiction Studies. I am interested in learning how to become a Researcher and do my PhD. I am looking nationwide (in the US) and possibly in Europe or Asia for a program. My interests are varied but I am especially interested in Internet Addiction. Expect to finish my MS June 2019 and to enroll in a doctoral program Fall 2019. Any advice or suggestions for projects I could join as a Research Assistant or similar would be much appreciated.

I have two suggestions: First, do a literature search for current scholarly articles on your topic so that you are familiar with the cutting edge information in your area of interest. Then contact the authors directly. I have developed some fine mentors through this process. Many noted researchers are happy to support novices.
Second, go to national and international reputable conferences related to your area of interest. The networking I have done at these has resulted in long term relationships with recognized experts whose mentoring has been very valuable.
A high point in my career occurred when some of my mentors began citing my work!
