Alum is KAl(SO4)2.12H2O so it is a sulfate of potassium & aluminum together and it contains water of hydration.

Aluminium sulphate is normally produced commercially by reacting Al(OH)3 with H2SO4.
Many research articles have addressed the recovery of aluminum sulfate from water works sludge which is mainly composed of aluminum hydroxide so I recommend the reaction to go in the way producing aluminum sulfate and water if no impurities are in the matrix.
