For calculate the tensile strength using Zwick software, we need thickness and width so in case of shear lap joint we will use the thickness of adherents or a total thickness of bonding part? I am working on adhesives failure. Thanks
if it’s an overlapping adhesive bonding specimen, in my opinion, the property of interest you want to test is the tensile shear strength of your bond. On the Zwick, I‘d calculate it by Force divided by your adhesive bonding area, i.e. width times overlapping length. If you want to be 100% sure, you should just extract your force and travel/elongation channels from the machine and process these raw data in excel, matlab or what suits you best.
