Adenine quantification by xanthine oxidase - real or not?

Have anybody tried to quantify adenine by xanthine oxidase assay , as described by Zhang et al, 2003 (see DOI: 10.1002/bit.10608)?

If yes - what where conditions for adenine deamination reaction?
