Could you please help me to answer some questions related to beamforming/RF antennas?
- What are the common cost reduction approaches in RF antenna design?
- Which is the latest technology trend in beamforming/antenna design in the industry? For example, most players are migration to certain technology from old technology due to certain reasons.
- What is the trade-off between different beamforming/antenna technologies? For example, full digital beamforming vs hybrid beamforming. How much cheaper? How much better? R&D effort? How does it change the rest of the RRU/AAU design?

The antenna design at the UHF frequencies and higher can be implemented by utilizing printed circuit boards. That is array of batches.
The beam forming can be achieved by phase shifters based on biased varactor and pin diodes. The biasing can be controlled by analog or digital control or the hybrid techniques.

Dear Tomás Bernabeu-Jiménez I think that the better solution is full digital beamforming and use digital antenna arrays. The advanced trend in this regard is to use Neural Network Beamforming.
I operated a Navini beamforming system in 2006ish. The antenna array was several sets of dipoles that switched on a TDM format. The dipoles switched 360 degrees at around 96000 times per second. The transceiver lobe was focussed mostly in a radial direction and operated at +14 db max.
It is an amazing idea and is still in use. Navini in Richardson, TX now has new owners. Look up Navini beamforming technology.
Digital beamforming is working well but it is power hungry. Best trade-off is using hybrid beamforming.

you may look into the AMANOGA educational software (free) and there take the Antenna module (but depending on your computer perhaps not easy to run)..very nice for learning about beam forming

Dear Vadym Slyusar , the one I found is Amanogawa software at this site: http://www.amanogawa.com/ it needs Java to run. I think it could be the one recommended by Fritz Caspers
