We are modeling a timber bridge in Abaqus. The trusses of the bridge are supported by struts at the sides. We are experimenting with different types of connections and element types to capture the bridge's mode shapes. However when truss elements are used instead of beam elements the struts are severely distorted. Is there an explanation for this behaviour or is something wrong with the model? We can add that the mode shapes are "correct" except for the struts. See the attached picture. Thanks in advance!
Nils Wagner Thanks for answering! The problem was solved and it was due to that the struts had several truss elements within them resulting in excessive distortion (at least from what we could figure out). The struts were seeded with 1 truss element in the "mesh module", before it had a global seed of 0.1 m (the bridge span is 29 m).
