Without seeing your computer I cannot give any advice, the most important thing to do from your side aftermath is to have an updated antivirus software.
You need to send your computer to an expert to remove the virus, and recover the operating system and your files, the good news, there are a solution for everything, even if you broke your hard disk still you can recover most of your files.
I think the virus corrupted some of your system files that why you cannot open or see your files, but this does not mean that they are not there, even if the virus deleted them there are some undelete softwares that can be used to recover all the files.
You do not have to buy these softwares, let the IT guy do it for you, normally they have all these tools.
p.s. please do not format any disk if it host some of your important files.
I think about your computer, Your computer infected to a particular virus. This virus take some money an returns your files because your files are encrypted with an algorithm and a secret key such as RSA-360.
It is hard to say anything without seeing your computer but assuming your OS is windows, some general guidelines might be:
1- Use a live cd to backup your data
You can make use of any linux live cd to start your computer with and backup any data file to a secure place. This might be a crucial first step when you have important data on your computer.
If you have enough knowledge you can even remove some virus files from your computer by this way.
2- Use a live cd to remove viruses
Again a live cd from an antivirus vendor might help remove viruses from your computer without any hassle. Start your computer with this cd and update virus definitions and let it do the job. You can even use different live cds from different vendors successively.
Generally these 2 steps solve the problem. If you still have viruses on your computer, then you should consult to an IT guy.
I recommend using a free anti-malware Malwarebytes Antimalware software to anybody using Windows.
I attached some links of linux live cds (Fedora, Ubuntu) and antivirus live cds. All you need is to download some of these and write .iso files onto a cd or dvd.
PS: If your computer is infected by a ransomware then there is no solution.
