How do I measure the major axis (longest axis) of an object in a nifti segmentation file?

Hi! I need to measure the maximum length of a random shaped object in a 3D binary segmented nifti volume. Is there any toolbox or any easy approach in Matlab or Python? Thanks in advance! Thorsten
