Is transfection efficiency of HEK293 cells with Lipofectamine 2000 better with cells adherent or in suspension?

I want to stably transfect HEK293 cells with DNA and am wondering if it's better to transfect them while they're adherent or in suspension. Also, should I linearize the DNA? Thanks!
