What is data normalization in Geochemistry and how is it best applied in exploration of Rare Earth Elements?

I am currently working on the Rare Earth Element Mineralization of Parts of Minna sheet 164, North Central, Nigeria. I have normalized my data but can't seem to find the proper application for it....
