What is the effect of differentating 3T3-L1 preadipocytes in differentiation cocktail for 3 versus 7 days?

I noticed that some protocols use differentiation media for 2-3 days while others go for 5-7 days before changing to maintenance media. Why is that? Is an adipocyte grown in DM 3 days + MM 4 days...
