Can anybody suggest the method of synthesis of magnetic nanoparticles without using inert (N2) atmosphere?

My research area requires synthesis of magnetic nanoparticles. But I want to perform it without intert atmosphere. Is there any methodology for that?

What is the exact defination of nanoparticles?

Some researchers says it must be less than 100nm while in the literature many reports are there which shows its size more than 100nm. Which view is correct?
