Can anyone assist with an improved method for estimating zooplankton biomass from samples rich in chain forming diatoms / organic material?

My zooplankton samples occasionally contain masses of chain forming diatoms (also organic material) that are virtually impossible to remove from the sample before being subjected to the biomass...
