SPI supplies no longer sell sample preserves (image attached) which allowed for sensitive samples to be stored under a positive pressure of an inert gas.

Why do people study the Germanium 3d XPS peak rather than the more surface sensitive Ge 2p peak when characterizing a Ge surface?

In the literature, the majority of the XPS data for Ge surfaces is interpreted using the Ge 3d peak. Why is this the case when the Ge 2p peak is more surface sensitive?
