Can we use Adaptive filter algorithm for optimization in place of Genetic Algorithm? In what way, GA is advantageous over adaptive filter for routing?

I'm using GA for cluster head selection in WSN routing. I want to know whether Adaptive filter algorithm is used instead of GA and if so, in what manner GA is advantageous from that.
