Why do we enlarge the phase space $C$ by Banach space $BC=\{\phi:[-\tau_1,0]\rightarrow \mathbf{R}^n~:~\phi$ is continuous on $[-\tau_1,0)$? Here $\phi$ has a jump discontinuity at zero.
