While modelling the toothed belt drive dynamics, how does the belt pretension fits into the equations?

For example, if ddx_m = (1/mass_m) * F-in - F_friction + F_stiff + F_damp How does the F_pretension fit in here and what is the significance since it is not going to be dynamic but constant.
