What is the suggested catheter length for intravenous surgeries (jugular vein) in rats. As in--how far into the jugular should the catheter be?

I have been having some rats die during post-op (prior to waking from i.m. ketamine/xylazine injection), and I am thinking the catheter length may have something to do with it...I did a post-op...
