What is the difference between monolayer height of MoS2 and the sandwich height of MoS2?

I know that sandwich height (S-Mo-S) is ~3.17 A and height of MoS2 monolayer is ~6.5 A. Why is the monolayer height approximately double of sandwich thickness of MoS2?
