What do you think is the neurophsyological link between the two core features of RBD: loss of REM sleep atonia and vivid dreaming?

I am interested in understanding how a lower brainstem disorder, which interferes in muscle tone regulation during sleep, can simultaneously disturb REM sleep related cognition.
