Ni refining effect in aluminum alloys?

I have added 5 wt. % Ni to an Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy and it has resulted in finer Al-Mg-Zn2 eutectic structure. It did not effect eutectic morphology, only eutectic spacing were reduced. Any thoughts?
