How can I compare many groups, each of which is containing heterogenous subgroup samples?? And can I consider such heterogeneity as a good thing?

In my research, I got a data about 4 age groups, from different places. I found some heterogeneity within the same age group... How can I analyze the data and compare between the main 4 age...
