Would you tell me about multiplicity when performing TDDFT (Gaussian)?

Many people chose multi=1 and (td=triplet, root=x) for TDDFT to calculate Tn. Why do they use multi=1 not multi =3? To my understanding, when calculating triplet state, multi=3 is used.
