What are the applications of long duration (2-day, 3-day) Intensity duration frequency (IDF) curves?

IDF curves usually developed using the sub-daily rainfall data. If I use daily data and construct 2,3-day IDF curve, then what are the practical applications of such long duration curves? Thank you.
