What is the size resolution of a Comet assay, and is it possible to detect a difference in migration of 200kb fragments from 50kb fragments?

I'd like to use this assay to detect fragmentation of a large viral genome, but don't know if those fragment sizes can be distinguished using this approach.

When using a standard Chromatin IP, is it known whether any binding of proteins to DNA occurs in the lysis buffer? Does anyone control for that?

I need to find a way to ensure only protein:DNA interactions occuring prior to fixation are being detected in my qPCR. Any thoughts would be welcome.
