Im doing verhoeff van gieson staining, but i could not stain elastic fibers black. nucleus stained black though. any suggestions?

verhoeff: tried 5% alcoholic hematoxylin, 10% ferric and weigerts iodine ( 10ml:4ml:4ml) van giesson: 1% acid fuchsin with saturated picric acid also tried modified vvg by garvey et al, 1991....
