Is anybody here aware of an extension of the Kalman-Filter-Algorithm that does not use matrix inversion for the computation of the Kalman-Gain?

In order to calculate the optimal Kalman-Gain for a system with n-measurements, you'll have to invert a matrix with n times n elements. I am wondering whether there might be a way around this...
