Can the method calculating the Stokes drift profile in the ocean apply into the Stokes drift profile in the atmosphere?

There are many papers study about the stokes drift in the ocean. How about the stokes drift in the atmosphere? Can they be calcualated using the same method used for the stokes drift in the ocean?
