Why organic fertilizers are mostly more effective in light texture soils (sandy and loam) than heavy textural soils (clay)?

In my recent study, I have found a pronounced effect of vermicompost on increasing grain yield of maize on sandy and loam textural soils as compared to clay textural soils.
