Why is it necessary the use of teflon hydrothermal reactors in the synthesis of materials?

We need to prepare some mesoporous-silice materials by a non-hydrothermal route but I'd like to know if I can use a reactor which is not covered by teflon, i.e, Pyrex glass. Thank you!
