I have read that when we consider a plane strain condition in a pure bending we also assume that strain1= - strain2. Why is this ocurring?

Being the direction 1 along the sheet, direction 2 through thickness and direction 3 in the wideness... I am considering that in a plain strain condition (strain3=0), elastic strain 3 + plastic...
