Why is carotenoid production usually enhanced at higher dissolved oxygen transfer (DOT)?

It has been reported that high aeration condition enhanced pigment production but there was no possible explanation why increased pigment production was achieved at high DOT.

Can anyone suggest a method for detection of 1,4-butanediol using a spectrophotometer or GC/HPLC? or any other methods?

1,4-butanediol is used as carbon source for bioplastic production. I want to detect its utilization.
