Does anyone know some reagent which reacts with high molecular weight alcohols and forms a derivative that absorbs in UV-Vis?

I have tried to react alcohols from 26 to 30 carbons atoms with 3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid or p-toluenesulfonic acid, but I don't have any clear results.
