What is the best method of counting how many generations there are in my reared insect which has overlapping generation?

I am currently conducting an experimental study. I don't have any methods on how to count the generations that might be exhibited by the insect that I mass reared.

What statistical tool to use?

I am currently rearing an insect. I do have have data in terms of number of insects per generation. I want to know what generation yield a significant increase in population.
